I like what I see a lot! I'm toying with the idea of getting a G1 series myself for casual shooting but that has to be weighed against the option of getting a D3100: I will not be lost for lenses!
I too like the quality of the Panasonic G1. The quality of the 14-45mm lens is excellent. The 45-200 mm is $250 at Amazon.com. That will cover 28-400mm in 35 mm terms.
I have used a D3000 and it is good too. Very well balanced but a lot bigger (though a lot smaller than my D300). The D3100 would be a very good choice too.
